Felicity Newman makes positive step in devastating storyline

Felicity makes a decision after clashing with Tane.

Home and Away‘s Felicity Newman will make a big step next week, as she tries to move on after her devastating assault.

In scenes airing in the UK this week, Felicity will attend the Battle of the Bands competition to support Lyrik as they perform. However, the night takes a horrifying turn for her after an unknown person spikes her drink and she loses consciousness, realising upon waking up that she has been sexually assaulted.

In scenes airing on Channel 5 in the UK next week, Felicity dodges questions from her concerned husband Tane Parata in the aftermath of her assault. When Tane presses her to open up, she tries to seduce him instead.

But, sensitive to his wife’s vulnerability following the awful attack, Tane pulls away from her advances. For Felicity, however, this feels like a rejection and she becomes angry with Tane, feeling that he doesn’t want her.

When Felicity later sees a drink unattended at Salt, she has an extreme reaction, declaring that from now on, everyone needs to buy their own drinks. Tane is upset to see his wife struggle like this, but he can’t manage to get through to her.

Felicity becomes convinced that Tane no longer finds her desirable after her assault. She rails at her husband, telling him that she just wants to move on with her life, but he can’t seem to do the same.

Tane confides in Felicity’s brother, Cash Newman, that Felicity is shutting down and pushing him away, as he tries to find a way to help her.

After Felicity chats with Eden Fowler, Eden reports back to Tane that Felicity is afraid of losing him. Tane acts immediately, pleading with Felicity not to self-destruct.

Finally, Felicity tells her husband that she’s willing to give counselling a try and Tane assures her that they will get through this together.

Actress Jacqui Purvis, who plays Felicity, recently spoke exclusively to Digital Spy about the storyline, explaining that her character will experience “trauma” and “grief” following the assault.

“One of Flick’s reactions is to actually sexualise herself. She doesn’t want to be seen as ‘dirty’ and ‘used’. She doesn’t want Tane to think that she’s those things, so she still wants to be sexual,” she explained of Felicity’s reaction in the upcoming scenes.

The star added that the hard-hitting plot will give viewers a deeper glimpse into Flick’s marriage to Tane, saying that the story “does really help us to get another insight into Felicity and Tane’s beautiful relationship, show how strong it is and show that they’re always there for one another.”
