Amit (Anil Goutam) made the ultimate mistake of confessing to his son that he was there when his brother Rishi (Bhasker Patel) died because Sunil (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana) quickly blabbed to boyfriend Nicky (Lewis Cope) in Emmerdale.
Amit had revealed that he and Rishi had argued, and Amit had watched him fall down the stairs. Amit claimed Rishi had died instantly, so he left him there.
Suni was so troubled by this, he immediately ran to Nicky and told him everything.
This left Amit in a pickle when, after voicing his dislike for his son’s boyfriend, Nicky cornered him and goaded him with the fact he knows his deep, dark secret. In a knee-jerk reaction, Amit punched him.
They are disgusted
Now, how to explain Nicky’s black eye without saying ‘it was because he teased me about the fact I left my brother for dead’ proved a tricky one, and the way Nicky chose to explain it away was by claiming Amit is a raging homophobe. Better than the truth, though, right?
So now the villagers believe Amit to be bigoted idiot, with Caleb (Will Ash) even labelling him as such in the middle of the Woolpack.
Both Nicky and Suni have kept quiet about the truth, but the lie has now reached Jai (Chris Bisson) and Laurel (Charlotte Belamy). Tracy (Amy Walsh) is the one to break the news, revealing to the shocked couple that Amit attacked Nicky because he’s gay. Laurel and Jai are disgusted and make a rash decision – Amit needs to be gone from their lives.
As far as they are concerned, they have no time for homophobia in their lives having had quite enough of it from Colin, and they want him as far away from them as possible.
Will Amit accept this new fate and let them continue to believe the lie, or will Jai find out what really happened to his dad?
