Chloe Harris has been having a traumatic time on Emmerdale since she first arrived on the ITV soap back in 2021. Her character was introduced when Sarah Sugden reached out to her after a live-saving heart transplant, in which she was given Chloe’s sister’s heart. Since then, she’s had some dramatic storylines, including being stalked by Noah Dingle, discovering her biological mother, and having a baby with Mackenzie Boyd behind his wife’s back.
Actress Jessie Elland plays the part of Chloe and has previously shared how she auditioned for the role during lockdown, filming a self-tape at home with the help of her mother, before being invited down to the studio for a screen test. She joked after this that the studio reminded her of an IKEA store, as the different sets were all next to each other, like a “maze of rooms”. She said: “The first time I set foot in the Emmerdale studios all I could think of was how it reminded me of a very complex and detailed IKEA! All the sets are next to each other in a huge maze of rooms and I was in awe at the attention to detail in each set.”
Jessie admitted she was nervous about her in-person audition, which was with Karen Blick, but she didn’t have to worry as a week later she got the call that she’d got the part. And just another week after that she started filming. But it seems the TV star almost had a very different career path. The 33-year-old, from Yarm, North Yorkshire, actually studied Anthropology at University in Manchester, before deciding to switch over to drama. She’s also previously starred in the TV series COBRA and has since gone on to do some modelling work.
Speaking about the change, she previously said: “Drama school wasn’t really an option so I went to the University of Manchester to study Anthropology and audit their Drama course, though after a week I decided to switch to Drama full time. It was a very theory-based course which I enjoyed, but I made sure to get involved in as much extracurricular drama/acting as possible.”
And in addition to being a talented actress, Jessie also has another skill up her sleeve – she’s a beautiful singer. She recently blew fans away when she took to TikTok to share a clip of her covering the song From the Start by Laufey and people were quick to praise her voice in the comments. One person said: “Omg your voice is amazing!” While another person wrote: “What a beautiful singing voice you have hun.”
The actress has also shared numerous other singing videos online, performing tracks from musicals such as Funny Girl, Sunday in the Park with George and Judgy Garland numbers. Outside of singing, she often posts a look at the books she’s currently reading, gives her followers a behind-the-scenes look at photoshoots and other projects she’s working on, and shows off her personal style.
She’s recently shared how “lucky” she feels to have her current job, but admits there’s one issue she has encountered with being on the soap, which is that fans will often confuse her for her character when she’s on a night out trying to have fun. As reported by The Sun, she said: “If I had a pound for every time I’ve been on a night out and someone has said, ‘Hang on, you shouldn’t be drinking, aren’t you pregnant?'”
But she added that for the most part reaction to her role has been “lovely”. She added: “It’s been lovely, the great thing about this love triangle dynamic is that there’s such a grey area, there’s no ‘he’s definitely in the wrong’ or ‘she’s definitely in the wrong.’ It’s really cheesy to say but I do have to pinch myself every day. I’ve been like, ‘This is my job! What am I doing’ I’ve been very lucky.”
