Dolly Parton reveals she was invited to tea with Princess of Wales while touring London
Dolly Parton revealed she had once received an official invitation from the royal Princess of Wales to join her for tea.
The 77-year-old country singer was sharing her love for London when she admitted she almost brushed shoulders with the residents of Buckingham Palace.
She explained her regret at not having explored more of the city while on tour but concluded she didn’t ever have enough time to play tourist.
During a chat on BBC Radio 2, the singer told presenter and host Claudia Winkleman of her admiration for the capital and her near-encounter with the royal family.
She said: ‘I love the people, the feel of London. I don’t unfortunately [get time to sightsee]. I have in the past, me and my band, in a tour bus when we have it planned.
‘This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate but I couldn’t even go. I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me and one of these days I’m going to get to do that – that would be great.’
The star went on to joke: ‘But she wasn’t going to promote my rock album so I had to say no.’
Dolly’s revelations came after Sir Paul McCartney admitted he ‘loves’ Dolly Parton’s version of his song Let It Be, which he recorded with her for her latest rock album.
The British megastar thanked Dolly for including the track on the album, titled Rockstar, and he was pleased to have been ‘by her side’ for the recording.
Rockstar is the US country star’s first rock album and is due for release in November.
In a recent interview with live streaming online network TalkShopLive, she recalled inadvertently organising a reunion of ‘all the living Beatles’, after collaborating with Sir Paul and Sir Ringo Starr.
‘Does it get any better than singing Let It Be with @PaulMcCartney who wrote the song? Not only that, he played piano!’, she later wrote on Twitter.
‘Well, it did get even better when @ringostarrmusic joined in on drums, @peterframpton on guitar and @MickFleetwood playing percussion.
‘I mean, seriously, how much better does it get? Thanks guys!’
Replying to the post, Sir Paul wrote: ‘Thanks Dolly for doing my song.
‘I love your version and am very pleased to be by your side on this one. Rock on! Love Paul x.’
