Bobby has tried his best to move on after the murder of his sister Lucy

EastEnders viewers have seen Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) conflicted in recent episodes after learning that his crush Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) is his half-brother Peter (Thomas Law)’s half-sister.

The shock revelations have come in the wake of Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins)’ return to Walford after 25 years – the character coming back from the dead after a quarter of a century in witness protection.

This week’s dramatic episodes have seen Anna and Gina (Francesca Henry), her daughters from her relationship with George Knight (Colin Salmon) reunited with Cindy, who explained she abandoned them after breaking cover to visit Walford in the wake of daughter Lucy’s death.

In doing so, she potentially put her new family in danger, and so stayed away in order to ensure they were protected.

The storyline has brought the murder of Lucy Beale back into focus once again – with Bobby having recently confessed to Anna that he was responsible for killing his sister.

The character was surprised by Anna’s reaction, as she revealed she knew what he had done, admitting: Not gonna lie, it is a lot to get your head around,’ before adding: ‘But I know when I’ve met a good person.’

However, the latest developments have left Bobby wondering whether Anna will feel the same now she has learned Lucy was her half-sister.

Just how did Bobby kill Lucy and what happened that night?

How did Bobby kill Lucy Beale?

Bobby killed Lucy by hitting her over the head with her jewellery box – with Jane (Laurie Brett) finding her body on the floor of the living-room where the crime was committed.

She covered up his crime by hiding her body on Walford Common where it was found in April 2014 – sparking one of the show’s biggest ever whodunits.

Bobby was revealed as Lucy’s killer in a week of live episodes marking the show’s 30th anniversary in February 2015.

That episode showed the events of the night in flashback – although at the time Bobby (played at the time by Eliot Carrington) did not realise he had killed her – standing in the living-room holding the jewellery box as he told Jane: ‘Whatever she says, she started it. She made everyone unhappy.’

Although he was revealed to have killed Lucy in 2015, Bobby did not confess to the crime until 2016 – with the character serving time for the murder before returning to Albert Square in 2019.

Who is Bobby Beale?

Bobby is the youngest son of Ian Beale, from his marriage to Laura Beale (Hannah Waterman).

He is the half-brother of Peter Beale, and was half-brother of Lucy as well as Ian and Cindy’s other son Steven Beale, who died in 2017.

There was initially drama surrounding the identity of his father, with Laura originally thinking Garry Hobbs (Ricky Groves) was Bobby’s dad, but it was later revealed that Garry had the wrong blood group and that Ian was the rightful father.

Ian initially avoided caring for Bobby, letting Garry look after him while unaware that he was not really his son.

However the truth about his parentage came out after Laura died in 2004, falling down the stairs after tripping on Bobby’s toys – with Ian subsquently raising Bobby along with Jane, who acted as his adoptive mother for a portion of his childhood.

Bobby returned to Albert Square in 2019 after his sentence for Laura’s murder, and has worked hard to turn his life around.

Currently he works at the chippy, lives with Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) and Rocky (Brian Conley), and is best mates with Freddie (Bobby Brazier) – as well as converting to Islam, with the faith helping him find peace and move on from his violent past.
